The dates for next year’s International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress have been announced.

The four day event, which is due to take place in Abi Dhabi, will start on Monday, December 4, 2017.

The IDF conference brings together healthcare professionals, diabetes associations, policy-makers and companies to share the latest findings in research into the condition.

More than 200 speakers and 230 national diabetes associations from 170 countries will be in attendance.

The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) will also play a key role in the event.

At a recent medical meeting held in UAE, Professor Dr Maha Taysir Barakat, director general of HAAD said:  “With the significance of non-communicable diseases in our society, we consider diabetes a top priority.

“HAAD anticipates a growth in demand for general medical services linked to lifestyle-related diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, with larger volume increases in outpatient and inpatient settings.

“Therefore, it is important for the medical community to convene to discuss trends, optimal treatment standards and realistic means of prevention and mitigation of complications.”

Registration for attendance opens on Monday, January 2 with the abstract and grant submission process starting on Wednesday, February 1.

Organisers have already met to discuss the programme agenda and reviewed the topic suggestions which were sent in by stakeholders.

Over 500 suggestions were made for the nine programme streams.

The committee is now working on the final topic selection for the scientific programme with the aim of delivering worldwide diabetes expertise through varied and innovative sessions.

Healthcare professionals are being asked to contact organisers if there is anything they would like included at the event.
