A ground-breaking partnership in America between Medtronic and Samsung could help improve diabetes management, it has been announced.

It is hoped that by combining Samsung’s knowledge of the mobile phone industry with Medtronic’s integrated diabetes management systems, a remote viewing system could be created allowing people to access their data.

Alejandro Galindo, VP and general manager of the intensive insulin management business at Medtronic, said: “Our partnership with Samsung is a key step in providing convenient and discreet access to diabetes data, so together we can provide people with diabetes greater freedom and better health.”

The first project announced by the two companies will focus on delivering more discreet and convenient access to personal diabetes data by developing an app to view insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) information.

Dr David Rhew, CMO and head of healthcare and fitness for Samsung Electronic America, said: “Patients are seeking better ways not only to monitor their condition, but also to enjoy a greater quality of life.

“We are excited to partner with Medtronic to develop diabetes management solutions that produce positive change and greater autonomy for people living with diabetes.”
