Annual symposium shines spotlight on multidisciplinary care and surgical reconstruction of the diabetic foot

Healthcare professionals with an interest in multidisciplinary diabetic foot care have been invited to an annual symposium being held by a leading foot clinic in September.

Registration is now open for the 9^th International Symposium on the Multidisciplinary Care and Surgical Reconstruction of the Diabetic Foot, which takes place on Thursday, September 14 and Friday, September 15.

Held by the King’s Diabetic Foot Clinic – recently renamed the Mike Edmonds Foot unit – the two-day event at the Glaziers Hall, London Bridge, will provide practitioners with a comprehensive, evidence-based framework for managing diabetic foot disease, covering podiatric, orthopaedic, vascular, and medical considerations.

Delegates will hear from globally renowned experts on both well-established and emerging treatment methods through didactic lectures, interactive presentations, and case discussions.

The programme will include:

• Workshops:

– Imaging interpretation: X-ray, MRI and other imaging modalities with interactive discussions
– Offloading techniques including total contact casting
– Instruction on how to perform bone biopsy and tenotomy in the diabetic foot clinic.

• Modern diagnosis of Charcot foot and its non-operative management.
• Technical sessions on surgical debridement of diabetic foot ulcer, Charcot midfoot and hindfoot reconstructions, plastic surgical procedures and vascular reconstructions.
• Lecture on medicolegal aspects and how to keep out of court
• Abstracts on any aspect of diabetic foot care invited for oral presentation

After completing the programme, participants will have the ability to:

1. Recognise the most recent information on pathogenesis and clinical presentation, enabling early detection of diabetic foot conditions including the Charcot foot.
2. Develop a comprehensive care plan for individuals through collaborative, multidisciplinary efforts.
3. Familiarise themselves with the most advanced techniques in Charcot care, including podiatric, medical, and surgical approaches, in order to provide the highest quality care possible.
4. Utilise quality improvement strategies in the management of Charcot foot, as well as in the broader domains of diabetic foot care and functional limb preservation.
