Community type 2 diabetes structured health education has positive lasting effects
Type 2 diabetes structured health education within the community improves awareness among people living with condition, latest research reveals.
A new study from Gift Phiri has found that most individuals accessing community-based type 2 diabetes structured health education have experienced effects long beyond the programme.
Around the world, type 2 diabetes consumes a large part of healthcare budgets and is a burden for communities and people living with the condition themselves.
According to the study, providing type 2 diabetes education (TT2DE) could help reduce these costs by harnessing individual’s self-management of their disease in the community through a community type 2 diabetes structures health education (CT2DSHE).
This review has shown that the knowledge and skills acquired from CT2DSHE can last beyond the programme – helping people with type 2 diabetes to manage their condition independently.
