Date for DISN annual conference announced

The DISN UK Group has made its annual conference free to attend to mark its 15th anniversary.

Registration is now open for the event, which will take place on Tuesday, October 15, at ExceL London.

The theme is ‘Moving forward and getting smarter’ and the event will focus on ‘diabetes technology’s and improving working lives’.

The meeting is only able to accommodate 50 delegates and places will be given on a first come first serve basis. Delegates given a place and but unable to attend, should notify DISN@nnuh.nhs.uk to enable another member to be given the opportunity.

The speakers include:

  • Professor Jonathan Valabhji, National Clinical Director for Obesity and Diabetes at NHS England, will be talking about ‘Inpatient diabetes specialist nurse funding related to the transformation fund and the subsequent long term plan’.
  • Amy Shlomowitz, Lead (type 1 and insulin pumps) DSN at Barts Health NHS Trust, will discuss ‘Current and new technology in type 1 diabetes’ and ‘Inpatient considerations when on insulin pump therapy and scenarios’.
  • Joanna (person living with type 1 diabetes) will give a presentation titled ‘Experiences of hospital admissions when on an insulin pump’.
  • Professor Alison Leary, Chair of Healthcare and Workforce Modelling, will speak about ‘The impact of specialist nursing’.

There will also be a discussion titled ‘STP Funding’ where a member of the group will share how they put STP funding to good use to improve their DISN service.
