National nursing awards evening will feature speakers who are making a significant impact in diabetes care, as well as a ceremony to honour the achievements of outstanding nurses in the field.

Recognising and celebrating excellence in diabetes nursing, the Diabetes Nursing Awards 2025 will bring together healthcare professionals from across the UK for an inspirational evening.

The ceremony, held in June, will feature a thought-provoking talk from Callum Metcalfe-O’Shea, last year’s Primary Care Nurse of the Year winner and UK Professional Lead for Long-Term Conditions at the Royal College of Nursing.

Callum will share his insights into the evolving landscape of diabetes nursing and the critical role nurses play in improving patient outcomes.

Reflecting on his award, Callum said: “I was thrilled to win last year – it meant so much to me personally and underscored the importance of this field in nursing. I was honoured to be invited to speak at this year’s awards and am looking forward to celebrating my nursing peers.”

The evening will be hosted by Dr Sarah Jarvis MBE, a well-known medical broadcaster and expert who has spent over 17 years as the resident doctor on the Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2. She regularly appears on Good Morning Britain, BBC World News, BBC Radio 4, Channel 5 News, and LBC, offering expert medical advice.

Dr Jarvis shared her enthusiasm for returning to host the awards: “I thoroughly enjoyed presenting last year’s awards – it was a privilege to share such a special night with so many deserving finalists. I am looking forward to this year’s event and celebrating the incredible work of diabetes nurses once again.”

Entry to the awards is free, and all finalists will receive complimentary attendance at the ceremony.

This year’s award categories include:

  • Community DSN of the Year
  • Inpatient DSN of the Year
  • Innovation Award
