Latest innovations and key updates surrounding diabetes nursing will be explored at a free healthcare event next month.

Thousands of nurses are set to attend this year’s acclaimed Diabetes Professional Care conference, which is taking place on Wednesday, November 16, and Thursday, November 17, at Olympia London.

World-class experts will be discussing the latest hot topics in diabetes care, with a number of talks dedicated to nursing.

Nurses are now being encouraged to register for the free-to-attend event as it will provide them with an opportunity to network with some “inspirational figures” within diabetes nursing.

Among the high-profile nurses speaking at this year’s conference are Chris Cottrell, Think Glucose Lead for Swansea Bay University Health Board, Adam Mapani MBE, from Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Beth Kelly, Director for the DSN Forum UK.

Joining them will be Judy Winter, from the Greater Preston and Chorley and South Ribble CCG, and the Trend Diabetes Co-Chairs Debbie Hicks and June James.

Event Director Andy Buchanan said: “Diabetes nursing teams are still facing huge pressures from the pandemic, so it is important that they take the time to unite and share best practice.

“Education is an essential part of diabetes care as it can transform the way healthcare professionals deliver services to people living with the condition.”

The conference programme is now available to view online. The sessions hosted by a nurse include:

  • Where we were and where we are now
  • Opthalmology: Update on emerging evidence, therapeutics and management
  • When diabetes drives you loopy
  • Achieving therapy goals in type 2 diabetes: Considerations for using GLP-1 RAs in clinical practice
  • Injection technique

Day two of the conference will also include a series of sessions, co-ordinated in partnership with the Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse (DISN) UK Group. The sessions will feature the RCP Diabetes Accreditation Programme, The Use of Closed Loop Technologies in the In-Patient Population, The Experience of Providing Diabetes Care on a Virtual Ward, a Work Issues Discussion and a DISN Members Meeting.

The Diabetes Professional Care conference is the must attend event for professionals working in the diabetes healthcare community, presenting an unrivalled chance to gain real-world learning from top practitioners and develop knowledge – all under one roof and with the objective of improving care and making a real difference to the lives of people living with diabetes and related conditions.

The national conference, which has a strong reputation for providing accessible education to healthcare professionals and has attracted thousands of visitors over the past eight years, is free to attend, CPD certified and open to any healthcare professional involved in the prevention, treatment and management of diabetes and its related conditions.
