EDFN launch new podcast
A top footcare network in England has launched its first podcast series to discuss some of the leading topics of debate surrounding diabetes-related foot complications.
Entitled Talking Feet, the English Diabetes Footcare Network’s (EDFN) new podcast welcomes diabetic foot experts to discuss various aspects facing those who work in this sector.
Consultant Podiatrist and Clinical Director at the Royal College of Podiatry, Dr Paul Chadwick has kickstarted the series with an episode on offloading.
Dr Chadwick, who is also an EDFN committee member, describes offloading as “the Cinderella of diabetic foot disease management – it’s the thing that often gets missed out in terms of the management of diabetic foot.”
During episode one, he highlights the significance of improving training and access to total contact casts and non-removable knee-high walking devices, and the obstructions which prevent essential early offloading.
Dr Chadwich explained: “Offloading is key, and the early intervention and instigation of offloading will make a massive difference in terms of healing.”
The specialist reveals that his interest in pursuing a career in podiatry began when he was young after an intervention from a podiatrist.
Dr Chadwick also discussed a major issue for those working in diabetic footcare – re-establishing the prevention of diabetic foot and ensuring that regular diabetic checks and foot protection programmes get back to “working at full throttle”.
He also shared some of the EDFN’s plans for 2022, such as developing a leadership programme for podiatrists.
