SUMMARY:Diabetes and surgery
DESCRIPTION:People with diabetes are more likely to be admitted to hospital for a particular condition than those without diabetes. With the number of patients with diabetes undergoing surgery likely to rise\, this could have major implications on inpatient care. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis meeting will focus on the issues surrounding diabetes and the surgical patient\, and the importance of having a multi-disciplinary approach when it comes to looking after the patient’s journey from admittance to recovery. \nFeaturing a key note lecture by Dr Mark Rice\, Professor and Multispecialty Adult Anaesthesiology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in USA. \nBy the end of the meeting\, delegates will have: \n\nAwareness about all the specialties involved in looking after surgical patients with diabetes\nInformation on UK guidelines that are widely recommended to ensure that patients get the best care along their surgical journey\nAn understanding about what can go wrong\, but most importantly\, what needs to be done to make patient care better
