Hypo Awareness Week takes place across UK and Ireland
A total of 369 healthcare teams across the UK and Ireland took part in Hypo Awareness Week 2022.
The annual campaign gives healthcare professionals and the diabetes community the opportunity to discuss hypoglycaemia in hospitals and primary care settings.
This year it took place from Monday, October 3 to Sunday, October 9. The theme for this year’s campaign was ‘The Journey to Hypo Awareness Week’.
Hypo Awareness Week was first staged locally in Portsmouth hospitals in April 2012 before being rolled out nationally by NHS Diabetes in the following August.
Hospitals and primary care organisations registered prior to the event and were sent a link to an electronic pack of materials.
A printed resource pack was issued to those who wanted them, which included posters, stickers, t-shirts and pens.
For the first time this year, sites also received a pledge board to share key messages around hypoglycaemia.
The teams were then encouraged to hold activities and training throughout the week to educate other healthcare professionals about hypos and how to prevent them.
During the annual awareness campaign, all of the sites had exclusive access to two CDEP online topics.
Registered sites are now being encouraged to apply for the Hypo Awareness Week Excellence Award, which celebrates, recognises and rewards the ‘above and beyond’ efforts that were made during the campaign.
The award will be part of the QiC Diabetes awards programme. Due to the close proximity of the awards ceremony taking place this October, the winner will be announced after the event.
