Job summary

The post holder will enhance and engender a philosophy of care founded on the recognition and promotion of normality within a high-risk pregnancy, birth, and postnatal period for women and birthing people with diabetes. They will provide health education, support, and advice to women and birthing people with pre gestational and gestational diabetes.

They will work in partnership with the woman/birthing person and their family in co-ordinating their care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate health promotion programmes in line with best practice for women and birthing people.

The post-holder will proactively contribute to the support and development of all grades of staff within the multidisciplinary team by providing professional clinical guidance and advice about all aspects of pregnancy care and diabetes.

Main duties of the job

To be accountable for their midwifery practice which must always be in accordance with the rules and standards applicable to their role.

To undertake the necessary supervision, care, and advice to women and birthing people during pregnancy, labour, and the post-partum period as described in the job description and person specification document.

To conduct deliveries, on their own responsibility and to care for the newborn. Working in co-operation with midwifery colleagues, the obstetricians, General Practitioners, and outside agencies.

To complete any documentation and to personally inform other Trusts, if their work means that they cross-geographical boundaries.

To maintain professional development in accordance with the NMC Rules and to comply with revalidation requirements.

Act as an ambassador for the Trust in professional and public settings and ensure confidentiality is maintained.

Comply with the complaint’s procedure of the Trust. Report all incidents or accidents involving patients, visitors or staff and complete accurate statements and reports.

To maintain competency in use of relevant IT packages and basic computer skills.

Participate in Maternity Manager On-Call rota.
