Diabetes Specialist Nurse
Job summary
Have you an interest in paediatric diabetes and looking for a new challenge? The Diabetes team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital seeks a dynamic Band 6 nurse to join one of the UK’s largest paediatric diabetes units, serving over 350 children.
You should be able to work autonomously, be enthusiastic and self- motivated, with a demonstrated interest in diabetes care. You should have some teaching experience and feel comfortable in using these skills to meet the needs of children, young people, their families and other professionals. You will be expected to embrace change and be dedicated to advancing diabetes care through collaborative working with the multi-disciplinary team in diabetes, and throughout the Trust.

Main duties of the job
- The post holder will support and be supported in the MDT in providing care to children, young people and their families affected by Type 1, Type 2 and Rare Diabetes.
- It is expected that the post holder will develop their knowledge and understanding of the complex nature and medical requirements in managing these conditions tofacilitate the delivery of support within the nursing team who provide 24 hour a day contact for families and be part of the daily shift system incorporating the outpatient telephone on-call, and weekend rotas.
- The nurse will work as a fully integrated member of the multi-disciplinary diabetes team, caring for the child with diabetes needs.
- Provide specialist nursing skills, knowledge, expertise and support these children and their families.
- Act as a resource and support for primary healthcare teams, shared-care centres and multi-disciplinary teams at BCH.
- All children receiving any form of investigation or treatment regarding their diabetes will receive appropriate care of the highest standard both in hospital and community setting.
