Job summary
The Paediatric Diabetes Service within Croydon currently works with around 120-130 Children and young people with diabetes. The service is part of the integrated Paediatric Nursing Service in Croydon.The post holder will be expected to work across care settings at the hospital and in the community as an expert in this clinical field, to deliver specialist clinical diabetes services to children and young people and their families.The service is supported by Consultant Paediatricians, PDSN’s, Dietician and psychology services.The post holder will be required to be part of an on call rota providing telephone advice to parents,children and young people with diabetes regarding the use and ongoing management of insulin pumptherapy.
Main duties of the job
- To be effective in organising and planning the day to day management of the Diabetes Teamcaseload, ensuring the individual needs of children/young people and their families are met.
- To have an open minded approach to work and demonstrate ability to multitask in order to get thejob done through flexible hours and locations
- To identify and manage risks to patients and staff.
- To be responsible for line management, education and training, and support and mentoring ofcolleagues.
- To work collaboratively and develop effective relationships within the multi-disciplinary team andother departments and organisations
- To develop and monitor quality initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care, in line withthe Clinical Governance framework and Best Practice Tariff.
- To work strategically to influence the development of the service both locally and regionally
