Job summary

The Trust is looking for a motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic doctor to work in Diabetes/Endocrinology/General Medicine at Registrar level at RHCH. This will be an ideal opportunity for candidates gain more experience in general medicine, diabetes and Endocrinology with or without PACES and before joining a specialist registrar scheme.

The Diabetes/Endocrine team at RHCH consists of 4 consultants, 2 Diabetes/Endocrine SpRs, 2 senior house officer grade doctors (1 core medical trainee and 1 GP trainee), 2 foundation year 1 doctors, 2 Diabetes clinical nurse specialists, 1 dietitian, 1 podiatrist and part time psychologist.

Main duties of the job

Trainees will have exposure to acute medicine as part of the acute unselected take (frequency of 1 in 15), general medicine, diabetes including inpatient diabetes ward rounds, diabetes foot clinics, insulin pump clinics, antenatal diabetes clinics, teenage transition clinics, young adult diabetes clinics. There is also a weekly endocrine clinic at RHCH and fortnightly endocrine clinic at Andover hospital. This will give an opportunity to learn about thyroid disease, pituitary, adrenal, gynaecological endocrinology, hypogonadism and metabolic disorders including lipidology.

There is weekly dynamic endocrine testing and weekly endocrine team meeting where team members take turn to present. Trainees are also encouraged to attend grand rounds, participate in quality improvement projects.

The training at RHCH is regarded as one of the best in Wessex from a survey of all Diabetes/Endocrine Specialist registrars in Wessex.
