New diabetic retinopathy guideline published
A new guideline aimed at improving the management and monitoring of diabetic retinopathy has been released.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has published the document to support hospital teams caring for people with diabetic retinopathy.
Recommendations on non-proliferative and proliferative diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema are included in the guideline.
In addition, the document includes guidance on cataract surgery for people with diabetic retinopathy.
However, the guideline does not include areas covered by the NHS diabetic eye screening programme, such as routine annual screening.
