NHS dashboard to address health inequalities in type 2 diabetes prevention
The NHS has launched a new data dashboard in a bid to lower the incidence of type 2 diabetes across England.
Entitled ‘Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme Data Dashboard’, the online tool will also reduce health inequalities amongst people with diabetes.
The dashboard is an essential part of the NHS Diabetes Programme and provides at-a-glance headline data.
It enables Integrated Care Boards to identify any gaps or health inequalities in their populations, ensuring that people at highest risk of developing type 2 diabetes – those from economically deprived and specific Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities – benefit by accessing this evidence-based intervention.
According to the NHS, the dashboard has resulted in a 37 per cent risk reduction of developing diabetes in completers of the programme and a 7 per cent reduction in population level incidence in areas covered by the Healthier You programme.
The Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, also known as the Healthier You programme, identifies people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and refers them onto a nine-month, evidence-based lifestyle change programme.
