Recognised professor under the spotlight in latest episode of Talking Diabetes
Professor Roy Taylor MBE talks about the DIRECT study, his biggest career achievements and his future plans during episode 11 of Talking Diabetes.
In this instalment, Roy also speaks about his theory of type 2 diabetes being caused by excess fat in the liver.
Additionally, he shares how he responds to people who say that his 800 calories a day approach is not sustainable in the long term.
He said: “I would point them to the results of our studies that were done by an independent team of psychologists.
“People were regaining their youth. The commonest comment I have had as personal feedback is, I feel 10 years younger.”
He added: “It’s not necessarily easy. You have to break through the first 36 hours on the diet. Yes, you’ll be hungry but after that you will not be particularly hungry. That’s the magic of the low-calorie approach.”
During the podcast, he also reveals how it feels to have been awarded an MBE for his world-leading work in diabetes research.
The Talking Diabetes series features leading healthcare professionals and academics as they share their expertise and thoughts on the hot topics from the world of diabetes.
