A new “connected” blood glucose monitoring (BGM) system which will further assist with good diabetes management has been launched.

Roche’s Accu-Chek Instant system has been designed so it will support the company’s integrated Personalised Diabetes Management (iPDM).

The iPDM is a holistic, patient-centred therapeutic approach with the ultimate goal of personalising diabetes management to streamline care and improve clinical outcomes.

Managing diabetes can be challenging, and people with diabetes have varied needs and considerations when it comes to finding a blood glucose monitoring system that works for them Dr Claire Marriott, Medical Affairs Lead at Roche Diabetes Care

It helps strengthen the care process, facilitates communication between people with diabetes and their healthcare team, and integrates tools that visualise and analyse data.

Quick insights

Accu-Chek Instant features Bluetooth® enabled connectivity to the mySugr app, allowing wireless transfer of blood glucose results to the mySugr app. This app offers users quick insights to their diabetes data in addition to diabetes management features like the mySugr insulin calculator.

Data from the mySugr mobile app can also seamlessly be shared with healthcare professionals via the RocheDiabetes Care Platform (RDCP), in near real-time. The seamless transfer reduces the burden of downloading data using hardware and cables. This integration between the RDCP and the mySugr app enables healthcare professionals to view their patient’s blood glucose monitoring data during consultations, allowing for more meaningful consultations.

The Accu-Chek Instant meter also offers a simply clear testing experience with an intuitive Target Range Indicator (TRI), which helps people with diabetes visually identify and correctly interpret high and low blood glucose levels to support self-management of diabetes. Out-of-range test results trigger a blinking arrow on the meter, which features an easy-to-read display with large text, and simple navigation.

Dr Claire Marriott, Medical Affairs Lead at Roche Diabetes Care, said: “Managing diabetes can be challenging, and people with diabetes have varied needs and considerations when it comes to finding a blood glucose monitoring system that works for them.

“The simple, easy-to-use and highly visual Accu-Chek Instant meter is suitable both for patients requiring simple self-monitoring of blood glucose, as well those who will benefit from more advanced features to support their diabetes management.”

The automatic transfer of blood glucose values to the mySugr app, enables patients to easily share their results with a healthcare professional or caregiver and the transfer of data in real-time to the RocheDiabetes Care Platform allows healthcare professionals to connect to actionable insights for a more personalised approach to diabetes care.”

Accu-Chek Instant will be launching in the UK in 2021, after a positive reimbursement decision was recently made. It will be available on the UK drug tariff from 1st April 2021 with a reimbursement price of £7.50 for 50 test strips.

The Accu-Chek Instant meter also boasts proven accuracy and meets ISO 15197:2013/EN ISO 15197:2015 standards for accuracy, with 10/10 analytical accuracy. It also unlocks the Pro version of mySugr App for free (worth £20.99 / EUR 23.00 per user per year), which has additional features.

Michael Goetzl, Managing Director for Roche Diabetes Care, UK and Ireland said: “Our vision at Roche Diabetes Care is to help people with diabetes everywhere in the world think less about their daily diabetes routine so they can get true relief, day and night. We are delighted to launch Accu-Chek Instant, which supports and enables Roche’s iPDM approach and which will hopefully  take us one step closer to achieving our vision.”
