Man unveils waterproof hypo band
A man with type 1 diabetes believes he has invested a valuable piece of kit which may help other people with the condition when having a hypo.
Adam Booker from north-west London invented the NRGBand, which is a waterproof glucose holder, after experiencing a hypo when waterskiing.
The 51-year-old, who was diagnosed with diabetes aged nine, has now had the wristband, which contains a disposable replaceable insert of glucose inside, patented in the UK and the US.
He said: “It’s amazing how fast a hypo can come on and if you’re not prepared it can, and will catch you out.”
Mr Booker, who is the owner of a small logistics company, came up with the idea after trying out waterskiing for the first time and experiencing a hypo while in the water.

“It got me thinking: ‘What if we can keep the energy boost needed always at hand, maybe not for all situations but certainly when we need it or want it the most?'”
Mr Booker is now trying to secure funding for the band as he believes the product is an essential piece of kit for people with diabetes.
He added: “As a diabetic I know there is a need for the band and after a lot of research its apparent that it’s not only useful when having a hypo but it can also be used to give an energy boost in any situation.”
