People who use Insuman pre-filled pens and cartridges have been warned of a temporary supply shortage of the products.

Sanofi, the company which makes the items, said the limited availability only affects the Insuman Basal and Insuman Comb 25 cartridges and pre-filled pens.

The shortage is not due to safety issues and all Insuman products currently on the market can continue to be used.

Normal supply of the affected medicines is expected to resume in July 2016.

Sanofi’s other insulin products are not affected by this temporary shortage.

In a statement Sanofi said: “Patient benefit and safety are the highest priority for Sanofi, and we are committed to providing high-quality insulins for the benefit of patients and healthcare professionals.

“We apologise for any inconvenience patients may experience. Sanofi has notified the shortage to Health Authorities and Healthcare Professionals and is taking all possible actions to minimise the impact of supply shortages and support patients and their physicians in managing diabetes during the shortage period.

Patients in the UK who are not able to acquire Insuman Basal, or Insuman Comb25 should contact their doctor and may be switched to another human insulin under close medical supervision.

Should you have additional questions relating to the shortage, please contact the Sanofi Diabetes Careline for guidance and support on 08000 35 25 25.
