Paediatrics, Research Type 1 diabetes

People living with type 1 diabetes who have transitioned from paediatric care to adult services are now invited to share their experience of this transition.

Researchers from the University of Hertfordshire are recruiting young adults with the condition to better understand their experience of transitioning from paediatric to adult diabetes services.

With young people’s voices often missing from research, this study is using letter writing as a way to hear their experiences in their own words.

Each participant will be invited to write a reflective letter sharing their personal story of the transition from paediatric to adult services.

Participants must be aged between 18 and 25, have type 1 diabetes, have recently transitioned or are in the process of transitioning to adult diabetes services and live in the UK.

Katie Ash, lead author and Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire, said: “The move from paediatric to adult diabetes care is not just a clinical handover, it’s a major life transition.

“This study uses reflective letter writing to amplify the voices of young people, who are often underrepresented in both research and services. This is an opportunity to share your story, in your own words, in the way that works for you.”
