Applications open for Diabetes in Primary Care course

A course designed to provide advanced professional education in diabetes care for those working in primary care settings is welcoming registrations. 

The Diabetes in Primary Care PGCert at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School will teach attendees the key aspects of diabetes care, including complications of the conditions, lifestyle interventions, up-to-date treatment options and insulin management.

In addition, those on the course will learn about evidence-based practice in diabetes care and quality, safety and service improvement in clinical services.

Led by Dr David Lipscomb, Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, the multiprofessional course is designed for GPs, GP trainees, practice nurses, community nurses and pharmacists.

Early career diabetes nurse specialists, podiatrists and public health doctors are also welcome to apply for the course.

The PGcert is made up of two core 20 credit core masters (Level 7) modules – MDM 59 – Diabetes Practice in Primary Care and MDM 177 – Injectable management, therapeutics and monitoring in primary care as well as one optional professional module.

For colleagues who do not want to commit to the PgCert, the core modules may be taken individually and even as CPD for those not wanting the credits. For graduates of BSMS or its constituent Universities there is an alumni discount on fees.
