Clinicians wanted for type 1 research

A new jointly funded project aimed at encouraging clinicians working within the field of type 1 diabetes to help build the research capacity for the condition has been announced.

JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity, has launched a Clinical Research Training Fellowship with the Medical Research Council (MRC).

Dr Clare McVicker, UK Director of Research Advocacy at JDRF, said: “It has been a thrilling 12 months of breakthroughs for type 1 diabetes research. We are making major progress on the journey to the cure – and this new partnership between JDRF and the MRC will give talented clinicians the chance to be part of this journey.

“Drawing more type 1 diabetes clinicians to be active in research will have a real impact. It will see work in the lab boosted by knowledge from interactions with patients in the diabetes clinic. Likewise, clinical care will be boosted by knowledge from the lab.”

JDRF is run by people with type 1 diabetes and the organisation is continually funding research to cure, treat and prevent the condition.

Fellows will be required to submit annual and end of grant reports to the charity and its scientific meetings or events for people affected by type 1 diabetes.

Applications are to be made via the MRC and will be considered from the January 2016 round, onwards.
