Diabetes specialist talks apps, the future of diabetes inpatient care and comic books in DT’s latest Big Interview
A diabetes consultant discussed his interest in inpatient care during the second online Big Interview for The Diabetes Times.
Dr Mayank Patel, a consultant in diabetes and acute medicine at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, spoke to DT Editor Oliver Jelley about his greatest achievements in diabetes care and the development of the ‘DiAppbetes’ app to help non specialist staff manage inpatient diabetes.
They also discussed the comic book project he was jointly involved with, alongside Dr Partha Kar, to help young people with type 1 diabetes who are coming to terms with their diagnosis.
Dr Patel has been instrumental in developing his hospital’s Inpatient Diabetes Service, which has helped to raise standards of care and the profile of diabetes Trust-wide.
