A series of CPD-accredited webinars that will give healthcare professionals a unique view of what diabetes care looks like in 2021 have been launched.

The DPC Winter Forum is a series of six free, independently produced webinars with each being led by a panel of experts from the diabetes multi-disciplinary team.

The first one entitled ‘GIRFT 2020 into practice: Report overview & footcare in focus’ will take place on Wednesday, February 17 from 7pm to 8pm.

Professor Partha Kar OBE, Consultant Endocrinologist and Clinical Lead GIRFT Diabetes, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Professor Gerry Rayman, Consultant Diabetologist and Clinical Lead for Diabetes GIRFT, East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust will chair the online session and will be joined by Graham Bowen, Podiatry Clinical Service Manager at Solent NHS Trust.

Diabetes leads to more than 8,500 leg, toe, or foot amputations every year and, from 2014 to 2015, healthcare-related foot ulceration and amputations for people living with diabetes was estimated to be £1 billion in England.

The DPC Winter Forum sessions have been designed for all healthcare professionals from the diabetes MDT. The first panel has been carefully selected to explore how healthcare professionals can minimise the human and financial cost of diabetes-related ulceration and amputations by exploring the GIRFT 2020 report.

The learning outcomes from the first sessions will include:

Brief Introduction to GIRFT:

  • What is GIRFT?
  • Who is it for?
  • How are the reports compiled?
  • What are the key topics of the GIRFT 2020 Report?

Footcare

  • Overview of the diabetes footcare picture in the UK
  • Where can we make the most difference?
  • Vascular Services
