A free online diabetes competency-based training programme relating to COVID-19 has been launched to help healthcare staff working on the frontline.

Developed by the Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP), more than 1,000 healthcare professionals have already completed the module.

Feedback so far has been very positive with 83 per cent of users saying it improved their competence and confidence.

The mini-topic was primarily aimed at supporting non-diabetes specialist staff, provide first-line advice and support to people living with all types of diabetes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

It provides basic information about Coronavirus and how people living with diabetes may need to be supported during this challenging time.

The topic points towards reputable UK-based resources and will be updated daily to ensure it is kept up-to-date as things rapidly evolve.

The programme only takes 20 minutes to complete and on completion a CPD certificate and reflection document are generated.
