Leading international experts will discuss the diagnosis, screening and treatment of cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy and diabetic gastroenteropathy during a free educational webinar this November.

Organised by the NEUROdiab Youth Committee, the online event will take place on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 4pm GMT, bringing together healthcare professionals and researchers interested in diabetes-related nerve complications.

The webinar, entitled Autonomic Neuropathy: Diagnosis, Clinical Features, and Management, is the fourth in the committee’s free educational series and will feature presentations from Professor Lynn Ang, Professor of Early Childhood Education at UCL Institute of Education, and Professor Christina Brock, Professor (Associate) at Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark.

The experts will explore two important forms of diabetic autonomic neuropathy: cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy and diabetic gastroenteropathy.

Autonomic neuropathy develops when nerve damage affects the body’s involuntary functions, including the regulation of heart rate, blood pressure and digestion.

Cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy can interfere with the body’s cardiovascular responses, while diabetic gastroenteropathy can lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea.

Both conditions can significantly affect quality of life, making early recognition, accurate diagnosis and appropriate management important aspects of diabetes care.

During the webinar, Professor Ang and Professor Brock will share their expertise on diagnostic approaches, screening recommendations and available treatment options, with a focus on supporting evidence-based clinical practice.

The session will be chaired by Dr Luca D’Onofrio, from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Disease, Sapienza University of Rome and Dr Fabiana Picconi, of the Center of Excellence of Gastrointestinal and Endocrine-Metabolic Diseases of Ospedale Isola Tiberina in Rome.

Participants will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the clinical spectrum and prognostic impact of diabetic autonomic neuropathy, as well as the recommended diagnostic approach to cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy.

The programme will also explore how to identify and diagnose diabetic gastroenteropathy and outline current management strategies for both conditions.

The NEUROdiab Youth Committee is encouraging members, colleagues and healthcare professionals with an interest in diabetic neuropathy to take part in the free session.

The webinar will take place on November 12 at 4pm GMT (5pm CET).

Registration is free and can be completed through the official registration page.
