Lyla’s Law campaigner to speak at International Diabetes Federation webinar
The Founder and Campaign Lead of the Lyla’s Law campaign will speak at an online International Diabetes Federation (IDF) event next week.
Entitled ‘Detect Eary, Act Early: Improving Diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes’, the webinar will feature bereaved father John Story, whose two-year-old daughter, Lyla Story, died from undiagnosed type 1 diabetes last year.
During his session, he will outline his personal experience to inform the new IDF-International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) policy brief.
This IDF webinar will take place on Friday, February 6, from 2pm to 3.30pm, offering an opportunity to learn about the importance of screening and early detection of type 1 diabetes.
On May 3, 2025, Lyla tragically died in her sleep just 16 hours after being diagnosed with tonsillitis by a GP, despite Lyla’s mother and grandmother reporting concerning symptoms at the face-to-face appointment.
Lyla’s family launched a petition for Lyla’s Law to make routine diabetes testing mandatory for children showing any of the ‘4 T’s’: Toileting, Thirst, Tiredness and Thinning. The petition has now passed 121,000 signatures and is set to be debated in Parliament later this year.
