A major diabetes conference and exhibition for healthcare professionals reached the finals at a recent awards ceremony.

Diabetes Professional Care (DPC), which is the only national, free-to-attend, CPD accredited event for diabetes healthcare professionals, reached the finals of the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) Excellence Awards 2017.

The annual ceremony celebrates standards of excellence from venues, achievements within the events industry and service quality by suppliers and contractors within the sector.

DPC, which was only founded in 2015, was shortlisted in the best tradeshow under 2,000 sqm category.

Maggie Meer, who recently told The Diabetes Times why she set up DPC in the first place, said: “As a team we are hugely proud to have been recognised by this highly prestigious awards. DPC2017 will only be our third event, so I think it’s a huge achievement to have already been named as a finalist among other leading events across the UK.

“The key objective of DPC is to improve the lives of people with diabetes by educating healthcare professionals, and arming them with the the skills and knowledge to provide the very best care for their patients, which I feel we definitely deliver.

“My mission from the outset has been to create an educational programme strong enough to provide healthcare professionals with continuous professional development (CPD) credits; and also, to address the budgetary constraints on NHS staff by running a free-to-attend event.”

This year delegates can expect a lively and productive couple of days, packed with conference sessions, workshops, special features and clinics, plus an exhibition of solutions providers.

For the first time there will be interactive hands-on sessions in the Hypo Hub, a dedicated Foot & Wound Clinic, as well as lypohypertrophy sessions in the FIT Theatre.

A new DPC2017 tablet and smartphone app, kindly sponsored by GlucoRx, has also been introduced, which means visitors can check the conference programme at the touch of a button. The app also allows them to create and save their own schedule, set up reminders, network with other visitors, and check out show features. The DPC2017 app is available for download at the App Store.

The two-day conference will take place at London’s Olympia on Wednesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 16, 2017.
