Approximately 94 per cent of maternity services across England and Wales are now implementing hybrid closed-loop (HCL) systems, according to the latest National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit 2025.

The audit examined the uptake of HCL systems throughout 2025, highlighting the widespread adoption of the technology in maternity services.

It found that 76.8 per cent of women accepted the offer of a HCL system, with no differences in uptake across socioeconomic or ethnic groups.

The audit has also revealed significant improvements in glycaemic outcomes, with 53 per cent of women achieving an HbA1c level below 42 mmol/mol, compared with 23 per cent between 2014 and 2019.

In addition, rates of major congenital anomalies, stillbirth and neonatal death were the lowest recorded since national data collection began.
