Information and support aimed at controlling and “potentially reserving” Type 2 diabetes has been published in a new book.

Reverse Your Diabetes LogoWritten by Dr David Cavan in association with Diabetes.co.uk, Europe’s largest online diabetes community, Reverse Your Diabetes also tackles the myths and misinformation about Type 2 diabetes.

Based on the “latest research and proven results”, it outlines key steps needed “to turn around your health”, including “watch what you eat, get more active, monitor your progress and commit to change”.

Dr Cavan is the Director of Policy and Programmes at the International Diabetes Federation and has worked as a Consultant at the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre.

We live in an environment that is absurdly full of calories and are bodies are simply not adapted to it

He said: “We live in an environment that is absurdly full of calories and are bodies are simply not adapted to it. From a biological perspective, Type 2 diabetes is a result of modern day lifestyles and is essentially reversible.”

A spokesman for Diabetes.co.uk said the medical science underpinning the book come from observations following the growing use of bariatric surgery to treat obesity, from natural experiments resulting from food shortages in Cuba, the growing evidence that sugar consumption contributes to the development of diabetes and recent research undertaken at Newcastle University.

The spokesman added: “In this research, a group of people with Type 2 diabetes lost on average of 15.3kgs and their diabetes went away. Even more excitingly, as the fat content in the pancreas reduced, their insulin-producing cells gradually woke up and started working normally again.”

The book costs £9.58. To order a copy, click here.
