New diabetes nursing course launches
The DSN Forum UK and Swansea University have launched a new course to help nurses improve their diabetes knowledge and skills.
Entitled ‘An Introduction to Diabetes Nursing’, this CPD-accredited course has been specifically designed for healthcare professionals – particularly current or future DSNs – wanting to specialise in the field of diabetes.
Kicking off with its first intake on Monday, July 21, this course offers a carefully curated collection of key articles, podcasts, academic papers, videos, and practical insights from experienced DSNs — all designed to build confidence and foundational knowledge before transitioning into a formal MSc programme.
The programme is structured for flexible learning, with two mandatory live sessions scheduled for Friday, July 25 and Friday, October 31. The remaining content is delivered in two-week modules, allowing participants to study at times that best suit their schedules.
A key feature of the programme is the opportunity to develop a strong peer support network. Through live sessions, discussion forums, and interactive tasks, you will connect with other nurses across the UK who are also beginning their careers in diabetes care, fostering collaboration, encouragement, and shared learning.
Beth Kelly, Director of the DSN Forum UK, said: “We are very aware that there has been a gap in the market for a long time now for new-to-post and developing DSNs to receive education.
“A lot of companies who provided this previously, now do not. Alongside this, many nurses cannot afford to attend costly conferences, and do not receive funding to attend either.”
She added: “Therefore, we decided to create our own course. As busy, working, lead DSNs, we created the content with our own teams in mind. We know that nurses need clear, flexible and interactive learning opportunities.”
To cover university and speaker fees, the course is priced at £400 per participant, payable directly to Swansea University.
