New lesson plans to teach type 1 diabetes in the classroom
Teachers across the UK can now access new lesson plans focused on raising awareness of type 1 diabetes among children.
Through interactive lessons, pupils across the country will get the chance to learn the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes, understand myths around the condition and explore the body’s major organs, including the pancreas.
Created in collaboration by Beano and DigiBete, and funded by Sanofi, these lessons provide insight into what it is like to live with type 1 diabetes.
Guided by Rhymin’ Reema, who is living with type 1 diabetes, children can take part in activities and games that build empathy, kindness and support for classmates who may be living with a hidden condition.
This lesson series, ‘Living with Diabetes: How Reema Rules It!’, slots neatly into PSHE and health and wellbeing activities in the classroom.
