New NHS diabetes guidance to be published in forthcoming months
Updated NHS commissioning recommendations for blood glucose, ketone meters, testing strips and associated consumables are to be published in April.
NHS England is conducting a national assessment process which aims to support access to high-quality, cost-effective products so that people with diabetes can monitor and manage their condition appropriately.
The NHS Long Term Plan sets out a range of actions that the NHS is taking to reduce variation in access to services and patient outcomes.
It also aims to improve the quality of treatment and outcomes for people living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
The new national commissioning recommendations will be published by April 1, 2023, with all Integrated Care Boards instructed to adopt the new guidance by then.
