An online library of videos often recommended by healthcare professionals to people with chronic health diseases to help them better manage their conditions has been made free during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PocketMedic is a digital platform that allows clinicians in primary, secondary or community care, to send film-based prescriptions to people. These can be watched on mobile phones, tablets or PCs.

The content has been designed to help people understand what is happening to them and how they can start to work with their clinicians to play a greater role in self-managing their health.

Peer-to-peer sharing of experiences along with explanations from medical experts are used to help engage the audience.

Here is a list of the conditions that the platform has videos for:

  • Prediabetes
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Gestational diabetes

On the PocketMedic website a post said: “Given the current situation with COVID-19, we know that it might be a bit more difficult to talk to your usual NHS team and get the support you need to manage any long term conditions that you are living with.

“We want to do what we can to help and so the team at PocketMedic is opening up the doors of our library of self-management films to share the experiences of people living with long term chronic conditions and offer expert help and guidance from NHS healthcare professionals.

“We hope that these films might be able to answer some of your questions and give you guidance on how best to self-manage.”
