Programme unveiled for international diabetic neuropathy conference
Experts in diabetic neuropathy will share their research and specialist knowledge at NEUROdiab’s 35th Annual Meeting in September.
Billed as “the most important yearly event in diabetic neuropathy”, the conference will be held in Bucharest, Romania, from September 11 to 14 this year.
The programme has been announced, with dozens of speaker sessions including:
- Translating advances in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease treatments to diabetic neuropathy: new approaches in neuroprotection, genetic therapy, and biomarker discovery
- Management of vitamin B12 deficiency in diabetes and reevaluating diagnostic and treatment paradigms in diabetic neuropathy
- Optimising the management of painful diabetic neuropathy: from evidence to practice
- The role of insulin resistance in mediating the neurological complications of the metabolic syndrome.
NEUROdiab is the leading scientific organisation for the study of diabetic neuropathy and its chairman, Professor Triantafyllos Didangelos, said: “We have prepared a rich scientific programme with original works, invited lectures, and symposia on a wide range of topics.
“It will provide a comprehensive understanding of the field, including invited lectures and seminars on translational science, new risk factors, natural history, artificial intelligence application, pain phenotyping, therapeutic frontiers, electrical stimulation, unexplored territories of autonomic control, and brain involvement.”
Fellow organiser, Professor Rodica Busui, added: “The 35th Annual Meeting will draw strength and inspiration from the vibrant atmosphere of this European capital and will leverage the NEUROdiab’s history and track record to further advance the knowledge and discoveries in the field of diabetic neuropathies, through top science, clinical care implementation, networking, new collaborations, and mentoring and recognising the next generation of early career investigators.”
The event will feature two recent NEUROdiab award winners.
Johan Røikjer was awarded the Göran Sundkvist Young Investigator Award for Clinical Science and will speak on Friday, September 12 at 10am on ‘Diabetic peripheral neuropathy: towards early detection and mechanism-based treatment’.
Mohamed H. Noureldein, who was presented with the Angelika Bierhaus Young Investigator Award for Preclinical Science in Diabetic Neuropathy, will address delegates on Saturday, September 13 at 10.15am with his talk, ‘The role of insulin resistance in mediating the neurological complications of the metabolic syndrome’.
