
The Big Interview: International expert discusses the diabetes community’s response to COVID-19
Research projects, education and obesity were just some of the topics covered when diabetes specialist Professor Melanie Davies CBE sat down with DT’s Editor Oliver Jelley for the latest Big Interview.
Professor Davies, who is Co-Director of the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) and Director of the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre, talked about LDC’s response to the pandemic and how people with diabetes have been supported over the last 18 months.
Professor Davies, a Professor of Diabetes Medicine at the University of Leicester and an Honorary Consultant Diabetologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, spoke about the online platforms that have been developed in response to COVID-19 – resources which are still available.
The £2.6m ‘M3’ project, led by Professor Davies to offer a new approach to caring for those under 40 with type 2 diabetes, was also discussed.
