New strategies to lower cardiovascular risk, heart failure hospitalisation and mortality in type 2 diabetes will be discussed at forthcoming diabetes event.

Kidneys, Heart and Diabetes: Science and Practice is a CPD-accredited one-day event which will be held at London’s Royal Society of Medicine on Tuesday, April 28.

Organised by Endocrinology and Diabetes, a multidisciplinary faculty of experts will discuss the potential side effects and benefits of using novel anti-diabetes agents.

Attendees will also hear about the challenges in managing CVD risk, heart failure and renal disease in diabetes and receive an update on recent clinical trials results, focusing on SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists, highlighting these drugs benefits beyond glycaemic control.

Speakers will include Professor of Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine at Imperial College London, Professor Gerry McKay of Consultant Physician and Clinical Pharmacologist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Professor David Wheeler of Professor of Kidney Medicine, UCL, Honorary Consultant Nephrologist, Royal Free Hospital.

The cross-speciality event will promote collaboration and understanding between general practitioners, cardiologists, nephrologists and endocrinologists working together.
