University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust has been presented with the Insulin Safety Week Excellence Award in recognition of its outstanding contribution to this year’s campaign.

Representatives from Roche Diagnostics, a sponsor of Insulin Safety Week, visited the Trust to present the award to the winning team, celebrating their commitment to improving insulin safety, education and practice across hospital and community services.

The award celebrates exceptional efforts during the annual campaign and recognise teams delivering high-quality diabetes management, education and services.

More than 700 healthcare sites across the UK and Northern Ireland took part in the campaign earlier this year, which aims to raise awareness of best practice in insulin use and reduce the risk of insulin-related harm.

UHCW stood out for its multidisciplinary approach, bringing together colleagues from across the organisation to deliver a comprehensive programme of activities.

The team formed a planning committee to run a series of activities including daily workshops, presentations, a pharmacy educational session, a quiz, free e-learning opportunities, competitions, awareness displays and daily digital communications.

The award recognises not only the scale of the trust’s Insulin Safety Week programme, but its focus on education, engagement, measurement and collaboration across different professional groups and care settings.

Lila Chohan, Senior Pharmacist – Acute Medicine and Endocrinology, UHCW said: “We are delighted to receive this award as a team, and to have our truly Trust-wide, multidisciplinary approach recognised.

“Thank you to the organisers and sponsors for supporting this patient safety campaign.”

Ed Hartley, Interim Chief Medical Officer at UHCW, said: “Well done to everyone involved. This award reflects the team’s commitment to collaboration, education and patient safety.”

Katherine Kirkham, Roche Diagnostics UK and Ireland, who presented the award, said: “Congratulations to the whole team on this fantastic achievement. Their creativity, energy and commitment to bringing colleagues together around insulin safety really stood out. It’s wonderful to see their hard work recognised, and we’re delighted to celebrate this well-deserved award with them.”
