The importance of having a blood glucose monitor (BGM) alongside a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) was highlighted by a diabetes specialist dietitian in a recent online interview for the Diabetes Times.

John Pemberton, Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Specialist at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, spoke with DT Editor Oliver Jelley in this special edition Big Interview sponsored by Ascensia Diabetes Care.

Bite-sized instructional videos have been developed by Ascensia Diabetes Care to demonstrate how to perform a BGM reading using the Contour® Plus Blue, with versions available in multiple languages to support greater accessibility and understanding.

“I think it should be recognised that there are still times where you will need a BG test,” said John.

He added: “CGMs are fantastic, they are a gamechanger and are making a huge difference to absolutely everybody.

“BGMs are not needed as frequently but they are needed, and it’s better to get the ones of higher quality. It is really important people carry one [a BGM] with them, so they have the ability to check with a more accurate measure.”
