Diabetic gastroparesis in people with type 2 diabetes associated with vitamin B12 deficiency
Vitamin B12 deficiency is an independent predictor of diabetic gastroparesis in people with type 2 diabetes, latest evidence reveals.
The study was conducted by a team of researchers wanting to explore the possible association between vitamin B12 deficiency and gastroparesis in people with type 2 diabetes.
A total of 100 people took part in the study. The participants were put into one of two groups depending on whether or not they have gastroparesis.
The frequency of vitamin B12 deficiency in the participants with type 2 diabetes was 35 per cent, according to the research findings.
The authors said: “Vitamin B12 deficiency was an independent predictor for gastroparesis in people with type 2 diabetes.
“It predicts gastroparesis at a cut off value of 189.5 pmol/L with 69.1 per cent sensitivity and 64.4 per cent specificity.”
