The Big Interview

The psychological aspects of diabetes care were discussed by a leading health psychologist in the latest online interview for the Diabetes Times.

Katharine Barnard-Kelly, Professor of Health Psychology at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and Chief Science Officer at Spotlight-AQ, spoke with DT Editor Oliver Jelley about the role of psychologists in diabetes care.

Professor Barnard-Kelly also looked back on her career, which includes over 200 scientific peer-reviewed articles and lecturing worldwide, and what led her to specialising in psychosocial impact and management of diabetes.

They discussed the creation, use, and future of Spotlight-AQ, a user-friendly holistic pre-clinic assessment platform which focuses the time that a patient has with their healthcare professional.

Dr Barnard-Kelly is an expert advisor to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and has been instrumental in leading the FDA’s RESCUE Collaborate Community to “reduce the prevalence of intended self-injury and suicide amongst people living with diabetes”.
