Hybrid closed loops under the spotlight in Diabetes Times podcast

A recognised Diabetes Consultant speaks about the “exciting journey” ahead for hybrid closed loop systems in the latest episode of Talking Diabetes. 

Professor Partha Kar speaks to Oliver Jelley about which individuals are eligible for a hybrid closed loop.

In addition, Professor Kar talks about the impact technology has had on people living with diabetes.

Reflecting on his involvement, he said: “It’s been a rollercoaster and a fabulous journey. I think the important thing for more is not just the access, but the results now coming out.

“We have now got some of the best HbA1c achievements we have had in decades. We have had diabetic ketoacidosis rates lowered.”

He added: “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to lead this, but the job isn’t done until the closed loop is done.”

Professor Kar is a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. He is also the National Specialty Advisor for Diabetes with NHS England and the co-author of the national Diabetes GIRFT report.
