Healthcare teams in England and Wales are being urged to participate in the new National Diabetes Audit (NDA) Quality Improvement Collaboratives (QIC) which have been launched.

Specialist services, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Health Boards and Networks are invited to apply for free and have until Wednesday, January 6 to complete the submission.

The first collaborative requires 20 specialist services who are keen to undertake improvement projects related to helping people with type 1 diabetes keep their blood glucose levels within their target range.

They will be expected to work together with the other involved services to develop improvement skills, plan and implement a project in a bid to share learning.

The core local team will consist of senior members of the medical and nursing diabetes specialist team and others as appropriate to the service concerned. Potential members will be identified as part of early discussion with shortlisted applicants.

A total of 12 CCGs or Health Boards are being sought to join the second collaborative which aims to explore how to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in people with type 2 diabetes.

All participants will work alongside peers from across England and Wales and the teams will be supported to engage stakeholders, analyse local performance, identify influences upon performance, select improvement actions, develop commitment for the improvement actions, monitor performance, and share lessons and resources.

The third and final collaborative requires two Networks which are keen to enhance their use of NDA data. It is thought this will involve collating information on audit data, identifying how audit data and outputs could be used to support improvement particularly in areas prioritised by transformation funding and testing new ways of using the audit data.
