Delivering type 2 diabetes structured health education in the community is effective in improving knowledge awareness on the condition, a new study suggests.

Type 2 diabetes consumes a significant part of the national NHS budget and is classed as a huge burden for communities and people living with the condition.

Researchers have found that type 2 diabetes education in the community could help reduce these costs by supporting people to self-manage their disease independtly.

This review has shown that type 2 diabetes education in the community is effective, with seven out of the 11 authors supporting education programmes.

Several community type 2 diabetes education programmes have been suggested by the researchers, such as DESMOND.
