Type 2 diabetes consumes a significant part of the national NHS budget and is classed as a huge burden for communities and people living with the condition.
Researchers have found that type 2 diabetes education in the community could help reduce these costs by supporting people to self-manage their disease independtly.
This review has shown that type 2 diabetes education in the community is effective, with seven out of the 11 authors supporting education programmes.
Several community type 2 diabetes education programmes have been suggested by the researchers, such as DESMOND.
