May deadline for latest FreeStyle Libre data collection
A new data deadline for a nationwide audit of the FreeStyle Libre by the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) has been announced to coincide with a major international conference.
This next deadline for the ABCD Nationwide FreeStyle Libre Audit data submission is May 21, with an updated analysis planned to form data due to be presented at the American Diabetes Association’s annual professional conference, which takes place between June 7 and 11.
So far, more than 4,000 people with diabetes have been registered in the audit but most have only one visit recorded. ABCD is especially keen for healthcare professionals to enter follow up data. ABCD urged: “Please submit as much data as possible before the deadline – use the online tool at http://freestyle.patientaudit.co.uk/.”
In March, the DT reported how initial results of the audit revealed improved diabetes control in people with type 1 diabetes during the first six months of usage.
Using the flash glucose monitoring device led to lower glucose in people with high levels before use of the device and a reduction in hypoglycaemia, according to the results.
An ABCD spokesman said: “Centres may analyse their own data using the tool and this is an excellent project for a junior doctor or medical student and of course DSNs and medical secretaries and anyone involved in the management of diabetes may wish to be involved.
“As with all previous ABCD nationwide audits, all contributors will be acknowledged in all the outputs, including, of course, the paper which we plan to write during July or August.”
