New care home and diabetes guidelines supported by Care England
Care England is supporting the National Advisory Panel on Care Home Diabetes (NAPCHD) as it aims to improve the quality of providers across the social care sector.
The NAPCHD guidelines provide a framework within which adult social care providers can understand what best practice looks like and drive to ensure this is reflected in care delivery.
Care England is now encouraging all those working in the sector to review the work of NAPCHD and integrate it into the care they deliver.
George Appleton, Head of Policy at Care England, said: “The core purpose of adult social care providers is to ensure those in receipt of care or support are enabled to enjoy their rights to live purposeful lives as active members of families and communities.
“These guidelines have the capacity to help improve and maintain the quality of life of some of the most vulnerable members of society through improving an often overlooked and under diagnosed condition.”
Care England members have reported that the use of the guidelines has supported increased awareness of safe and effective diabetes care which has ultimately fostered improved outcomes.
International researcher Professor Alan Sinclair is the founder and chair of the NAPCHD. Professor Sinclair is a global leader in the field of diabetes, older people and frailty.
“Professor Sinclair has long been a strong advocate for the care sector and his efforts to help improve diabetic care for those living in care homes through the NAPCHD has been warmly received by sector professionals,” said George.
He added: “Professor Sinclair’s energy and commitment to this cause must be harnessed and Care England is delighted to be a part of this initiative as it drives at creating real change.”
