Winners announced at the Diabetes Nursing Awards 2026

The winners of the Diabetes Nursing Awards 2026 were announced at a ceremony in Nottingham tonight, recognising the outstanding achievements of diabetes nursing professionals from across the UK.
Held at The Orchard Hotel and Restaurant, the awards brought together finalists and healthcare colleagues for an evening celebrating excellence, innovation and dedication in diabetes care.
Hosted by broadcaster and GP Dr Sarah Jarvis MBE, around 100 guests attended the celebratory dinner and awards presentation.
The Diabetes Nursing Awards recognise the individuals and teams making a significant difference to the lives of people living with diabetes through exceptional patient care, education, innovation and leadership.
The 2026 winners are:
- Community DSN of the Year: Claire Culshaw (Moreton & Meols and Wallasey Wellbeing Primary Care Networks)
- Diabetes Educator of the Year: Kirsty Winkley (King’s College London)
- Diabetes Pharmacist of the Year: Hannah Syed (East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust) and Tiffany Feather (University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust)
- Diabetes Technology Nursing Award: Paediatric Diabetes Service – North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust)
- Excellence Award: CLCH Brent Diabetes Team (Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust)
- Innovation Award: Paediatric and Transition Type 2 Diabetes Team (East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust)
- Inpatient DSN of the Year: East Kent Hospitals (East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust)
- Rising Star Award: Susan Browne (Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust)
- June James Award: Janise Tara Jimenez.
Among the individual winners, Kirsty Winkley of King’s College London received the Diabetes Educator of the Year Award in recognition of her significant contribution to diabetes education.
Through her work as a clinician, researcher and educator, she has helped both healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes develop the knowledge and confidence needed to improve outcomes.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kirsty said: “It is a real honour, and I really appreciate being a diabetes educator. I am just absolutely delighted that what we do as a team can improve outcomes for people living with diabetes and that is ultimately the aim of what we do.”
The Excellence Award was presented to the CLCH Brent Diabetes Team, Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
Judges praised the team for embedding Diabetes Specialist Nurses within Primary Care Networks, creating a collaborative multidisciplinary model that has transformed care for people at high risk of diabetes-related complications.
Anganie Seecharan, from the CLCH Brent Diabetes Team, said: “Honestly, it is really excellent to win this award. Winning it shows the commitment and dedication we have in serving our populations with diabetes.”
Organised by Orange Juice Communications, the Diabetes Nursing Awards shine a spotlight on the vital contribution diabetes nurses, educators and multidisciplinary teams make in improving diabetes care and outcomes across the UK.
