TV’s Dr Hilary Jones has joined forces with Diabetes.co.uk to raise awareness of diabetes.

Together they also aim to provide education to the diabetes community via the website forum, which helps improve the lives of those with diabetes worldwide.

SONY DSCDr Hilary said: “My son Tristan developed Type 1 diabetes when he was seven so I know first hand the challenges faced by both the patient and parent. Diabetes.co.uk provides an invaluable resource not only for patients but also for families and carers. Together we hope to offer support and advice to the diabetes community.”

Arjun Panesar, Director at Diabetes.co.uk comments, said: “We are delighted that Dr Hilary is working with Europe’s largest diabetes community. The partnership helps us reach even more people with diabetes and those on the borderline with prediabetes. It also once again confirms that the work we are doing is truly able to benefit people with diabetes. By working together, we can raise even more awareness about diabetes – both Type 1 and Type 2 – and the differences between them.”

Three million people in the UK have been diagnosed with diabetes and a further 850,000 are still undiagnosed. In the UK 400,000 people live with Type 1 diabetes and 29,000 of these are children. The UK has the fifth highest incidence of Type 1 in the world and it is increasing at an alarming rate.

Diabetes.co.uk is the largest community for people with diabetes in Europe with nearly 100,000 members suffering from and affected by diabetes. It offers people with diabetes a platform where they can talk, support and help each other.

The forum helps to raise awareness of the condition, whilst offering people the chance to share stories and swap knowledge.
