Hybrid closed loop experts feature in special edition Diabetes Times podcast

Professor Helen Murphy and Professor Roman Hovorka talk all things hybrid closed loop systems during the latest episode of Talking Diabetes.

The special edition episode was recorded live at this year’s Diabetes UK Professional Conference, which did partly look at the emergence of hybrid closed loop technology.

During the podcast, Professor Hovorka, from the University of Cambridge, speaks about his Banting Memorial Lecture on closed loop systems – a prestigious research presentation given by an expert in diabetes.

He said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to share the progress we have done and the progress of the whole diabetes tech closed loop system over the last 10 years.”

Alongside his academic role, Professor Hovorka is also the Director of CamDiab – the company that has develop CAMAPS FX, which is an advanced adaptive hybrid closed loop app that automatically adjusts insulin delivery on your insulin pump based on your sensor glucose readings.

In the episode, Professor Murphy also talks about her session entitled ‘mylife Diabetescare Pregnancy success using mylife Loop powered by CamAPS FX’.

She said: “The benefits we can now get with hybrid closed loops are so much more than what we were able to obtain with continuous glucose monitoring. It is a massive step forward.”

Professor Murphy is a Professor of Medicine (Diabetes and Antenatal Care) at the University of East Anglia, and a Practicing Clinician.

She also serves as Clinical Lead for the National Pregnancy in Diabetes (NPID) audit, which is the largest population-based study in diabetes pregnancy.
